Directed by John Edginton, the film includes interviews with all the Pink Floyd members – Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright – plus the “fifth Pink Floyd”, Bob Klose, who left the band in 1965. The film includes rare early television appearances of Pink Floyd and home movies. In 2006 a new “definitive edition DVD” was produced in the UK and Europe in which the full unedited interviews conducted by the director with Pink Floyd are now made available, alongside the original documentary. The focus of the film is Syd Barrett, the lead guitarist of the early Pink Floyd, who created their unique psychedelic sound and all the band’s early songs, including the singles “Arnold Layne” and “See Emily Play” and much of their first album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Christmas is such a warm , friendly , loving time for most, its really no surprise that Abraham Cloud would be looking at its sinister side. That Big Red Jolly guy named Santa seems to carry some deeper and devious motives in this song. Mr Cloud starts off by announcing, “I’ve got every disease known to man waiting patiently inside me, to surprise me when I least expect it.” Which is a pretty startling and freeing realization in and of itself. But nothing compared to the iconic visitor who shows up live and in person, “Love everyone, Santa Claus said, As he perched ***** on my bed. Love everyone and you’ll be free, but first you gotta love me.” That Jolly Old pagan not only climbed in through the fireplace but is now, instead of leaving gifts, bartering for love or *** or something. Not completely sure of the meaning here but it seems to run deep. Abe sings , “I ain’t go no one to love. ” and then Santa appears as a vision of love. Santa Claus , is tipically every child’s perfect picture of God. All knowing , all giving , all justice and all love. So how does this pure light of love turn into a conniving , commercialized loan shark , making a deal instead of giving. Is it the corruption of spirit, the loss of soul or perhaps Cloud watches too much news.
